Congratulations!!

Congratulations to the organizing committee, the many volunteers, those who donated food and other items, as well as to the members of all 19 teams! Over $25,000 was raised for the John Calvin School building project in Barranquilla, Colombia*. The preliminary results indicate that the goal to exceed last year's total of $17,800 was exceeded by almost 50%!! The Lord is good.

We have 19 teams registered!! That's a lot more than we had dared hope for, we're really looking forward to the tournament & making great things happen for Word & Deed!

We're looking for volunteers to help out in the areas of kids activities, manning the concession tables, running the BBQ, lunch service & clean up. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated :)

Games Scheduling:
We plan to post the game schedule on or before June 12, once we have all the team registrations in place. The first games will begin at 10.00 & we hope to be in the final round or completely finished the tournament by 16.00

We have booked 4 diamonds, so there's definitely room for lots of teams - we're looking forward to getting all your registrations!

Join us for our 2nd Annual Softball Tournament! Last year's softball tournament fundraiser went so well that we're planning another! It is scheduled for June 20, 2009 at the Coalhurst Miner's Memorial Park. We're looking forward to raising funds to help improve the physical & spiritual lives of needy people in the developing world. Help us exceed last year's record of $17,800 raised!

Directions:
Coalhurst Miners' Memorial Park is located just inside Coalhurst, off Highway 3 west of Lethbridge, going into Coalhurst via the main entrance over the railroad tracks or via the back roads by taking the Kipp Road (east of Highway 3) & following the signs for the park. RV camp sites are available on a first-come/first-served basis! These are $10 per night & can be booked by individuals who wish to camp by calling the Town of Coalhurst at 403-381-3033.

About This Project

We are fundraising for the John Calvin Christian School in Barranquilla, Columbia. Our goal is to raise $309,000 per year for 3 years in order to finance this large project. This school will eventually host 400 students, providing them with a Christian education, a meal every day & hope for the futures of their families. This is the second year of fundraising for this project. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall, if possible.

About Colombia

Colombia is a country that struggles with violence and corruption. The result is tens of thousands of internally displaced people (IDP) huddled around the major cities of Colombia, desperately crying to keep their children away from soldier starved armies.

In the cauldron of an IDP zone, the effects of sin are often magnified. Many fathers abandon or abuse their families, mothers desperately cling to the next man that comes along (often for safety), and children join gangs.

It is in these IDP areas that our partner Corporacion Dios es Amor (CDA) is operating (with funding from Word & Deed). Christian schools filled with sponsor children are integrated with medical clinics, vocational training, microloans projects (small loans for family run businesses) and many other supporting projects with the intent of transforming entire families and communities. Since the golden thread of the Gospel runs through each of these projects, many also come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. Even in the darkest areas, the bright light of God’s amazing grace is at work.
